Green City Biogas Plant Provides Electricity and Heat to the Area
In 2006, the Green City biogas plant in Seckach, Baden-Württemberg, was built in collaboration with local farmers. In 2019, the plant was transformed with the aim of supplying electricity and heat according to demand. With a total electrical output of 2,047 kW and thermal output of 2,036 kW, as well as a wood chip drying system and connection to the local heating network, the plant has been optimized for a targeted supply of electricity. and heat.
An additional amount of 1.5 million euros has been invested. With a second cogeneration plant and a gas storage tank, it is possible to produce more than 2,000 kilowatts of electricity and heat. The heat is supplied to a local heating network and thus supplies 122 households.

The production of electricity and heat from biogas is almost neutral in terms of CO2. The plant emits only 3% of the CO2 used for harvesting and operation. Since its commissioning, the biogas installation has saved more than 52,000 tonnes of CO2.
