Saarland: Start of construction work on the Merzig wind farm

Construction work has started: In Merzig, Saarland, two wind turbines (WTG) are being built by Green City AG.

Two Vestas V150 turbines with a total power of 8.4 MW and a total height of 241 m are planned for the wind farm in Saarland. In the future, the two turbines will be able to supply around 6,800 households with clean electricity. Wind turbines were planned as far as possible from forest stands and adjacent forest edges. In addition, the sites are located on land exclusively used for agricultural purposes or on wasteland, in a north-south orientation, so that both sites benefit from an optimal wind input.

“We are happy to be able to contribute, as a company, to the continued expansion of renewable energies in the city”, rejoices Anna Fritsch, developer of the project, together with the Green City team. The climate protection measures of the city of Merzig now go back more than 20 years. As a result, almost 50% of the electricity consumed in Merzig is currently produced sustainably on site, notably by wind and solar energy.
